We welcome you to our Auxiliary and trust you will find it fun and rewarding. We have put the fun in fund-raising and are pleased to be able to buy thousands of dollars' worth of needed medical equipment and amenities for this hospital. I'm sure you will gain pleasure in giving your time and energy and getting satisfaction and fun and friendship as part of our happy gang.
The Auxiliary, originally ladies who spent their free time building and helping their hospital, now comprises a wide range of people. Women and men, young and old, working and retired, everyone has a place with us – especially if you are interested in retail or handiwork or administration or sales.
The aim of our Auxiliary is to raise funds for needed equipment, furniture, and amenities for the general comfort and well-being of patients here. In the first three decades we gladly gave our hospital almost three million dollars in equipment. We are around the $200,000-per-year level and we select our purchases from a "wish list" provided by the health authority, so we know we are providing the correct things to the correct departments.
Members share their time and energy and talent in the shop, knitting for babies, selling chocolate bars in the concourse, organizing nearly new sales, taking orders for Christmas plants, and the various aspects of administering these wide-ranging events. Wow! you may be thinking! What a list! It gives us many streams of income and different areas to provide "jobs" for our volunteers.
THE SHOP is a high-volume store catering to patients (slippers, magazines, newspapers, toothpaste, candy), staff (trendy giftware, cookbooks, kitchenware), and visitors (flowers, cards, umbrellas, china, creams, jewellery). The volunteer staff and management are extremely professional and committed. Duties here go from dusting to bookkeeping and most of our active volunteers spend half a day per week working in the shop in one capacity or another.
PURDY’S CHOCOLATE BARS on sale in the concourse lets people stop and chat and support their hospital. Hours are flexible. A chance to sit and serve. Sit in the concourse and chat to people.
KNITTING provides the Shop with baby layettes, caps, booties, etc. We provide the wool and you transform it.
POINSETTIAS for PATIENTS is a campaign to sell holiday plants (locally grown and extremely health and long lived) to businesses, clubs, and individuals in order to purchase a special item for the hospital.
OASIS@3NORTH: A PROJECT OF THE AUXILIARY is the transformation of the rooftop at 3 north into a place to relax or pace for patients, visitors, volunteers, and staff. The Auxiliary solicited donations and put in their own funds toward buying tables and chairs, pergolas, planters with trees and shrubs, and hopes to keep on adding to it.
There are other activities, sales, and opportunities to make money for your hospital. Please don't be shy and you'll find your niche. Be aware that when you are volunteering, and only when you are volunteering, parking is covered with a special pass. Also, you will need photo identification when you're "working".
Congratulations on your excellent volunteering choice. We're glad to have you with us. Our meetings are held most months on the third Tuesday at 11 o'clock.
